With the popularity of image-sharing websites like Flickr and on Tumblr, digital photography—professional and amateur—has become nearly ubiquitous in our daily lives. That's good news for architecture fans, who previously had to travel to see many of the world's buildings. The one setback to this phenomenon is that the photographer's identity often takes a backseat to the heroic image itself.

Of course, many architectural photographers live their lives outside the lime light—take Julius Shulman or Ezra Stoller, whose overdue fame came late in their careers. Increasingly, galleries are taking note of their capacity to document the built environment, thus covertly cementing their works in our collective conscious.
