ACAW Presenter - Lu Yang

Asian Contemporary Art Week (ACAW)
Oct 6, 2014 8:08PM

Performance followed by introduction by Xin Wang

Lu Yang presents a special performance developed from her latest project Cancer Baby (2014), in collaboration with experimental composer Du Yun. Sponsored by Residency Unlimited.

Also on view during the week is the Shanghai-based artist's first New York solo exhibition, which presents some of her key projects since 2011 as well as new works that feature fantastical, often morbid visions of death, sexuality (or a-sexuality), illness, and neurological constructs of both real life-forms and religious icons. An experimental retrospective that captures her interest in games and virtual realms as sites for imaginative, provocative, and critical possibilities, the show transforms the storefront of Wallplay (118 Orchard St.) into of a vintage arcade featuring interactive games, videos installations, and a shop of bizarre objects. Selected videos will be screened at Ventana224 (244 N 6th street).

An artist talk/panel at Residency Unlimited takes a closer look at a practice heavily informed by an immersion in the subcultures of anime, video games, and sci-fi on October 29, 2014.
