The Photo League

Active from 1936 to 1951, the Photo League was a collective of photographers who formed in New York with the goal to “put the camera back into the hands of honest photographers [who would] use it to photograph America.” Emerging from this group were some of the most iconic images of mid-century America, as well as some of its most celebrated photographers.
