Artist Yuko Shiraishi (Tokyo, 1956) brings 'Netherworld' to Church of the Convent of Santo Domingo, Pollença in Mallorca. The installation, a review of the Egyptian artistic mourning ceremony, shows the many layers in an Egyptian tomb that surround the deceased.

Civilized societies have always felt concern and interest in preparing their dead, that's why the work involves, according to the commissioner of the work Biel Amer, a contemporary vision of funerary mausoleum. The opportunity to present this work in the Church of Santo Domingo, sees the union of two ancient forms of enthronement and respect for the dead.

The Church maintains gravestones and tombs of the Middle Ages of important figures in the history of the convent and the city, therefore the work of Shiraishi is also a tribute to them.

This installation was presented by Annely Juda Fine Art (London) in 2013 & is the first exhibition by Shiraishi in Spain.
