ARCOmadrid Promotes Patronage

Nov 2, 2016 6:01PM

To foster collecting, promote artists and enable contacts that inject dynamism into purchases at the Fair have been among ARCOmadrid’s objectives right from the outset. According to the Report on the Spanish Art Market, by Clare McAndrew for the Fundación Arte y Mecenazgo two years ago, the impact of ARCOmadrid on Spain’s art market represents 60% of the total sales generated in art fairs in the country, bearing in mind that these fairs generate 33% of the sector’s overall sales.

In addition to the acquisitions made by collectors, professionals, enthusiasts, institutions, museums and foundations such as the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía; CA2M, DKV Seguros; Fundación Helga de Alvear, IFEMA, Asociación 9915, to mention but a few, there are also numerous other initiatives organised by ARCOmadrid each year at the Fair to drive both purchases and recognition of artistic creation.

On the occasion of ARCO, both national and international private enterprises offer their best effort and support to contemporary art in the form of different awards.

Audemars Piguet and ARCOmadrid announce the V Audemars Piguet Award for the production of a work of art, open to the participating galleries of ARCOmadrid 2017.
The brand, an unquestionable symbol of haute Swiss watch-making, will once again reward one artist, whose project will be exhibited in the VIP Lounge of ARCOmadrid 2017. The jury will acknowledge artistic creation that embodies the spirit of the Audemars Piguet message, based this year on: “The mystery of precision”. The winner will be announced on 14 November.

The BEEP Award for Electronic Art will celebrate its twelfth edition at ARCOmadrid 2017. This award, that seeks to promote the research, production and exhibition of art linked to the new technologies or electronic art, will reward one of the works exhibited at the Fair. Chosen by a jury of specialists of renowned prestige and with a prize of 15,000 euro, its objective is to foster art creation linked to technology, and favour communication between technology manufacturers and creators and the creative artists.

Yet again this year, illycaffè will distinguish emerging Latin American creation  with its illy SustainArt Award.

A curatorial team will be responsible for pre-selecting ten projects from the Latin American artists participating in the Fair, and the jury, made up of these curators along with illy and ARCOmadrid directors, will choose the winner who will be rewarded with a prize endowed with 15,000 euro.

This award came into existence eleven years ago with a view to raising awareness of the company’s approach to sustainable growth in the international art community, offering opportunities for increasing visibility and exchange within the market of artists from developing countries.

Solán de Cabras once again collaborates as a sponsor of ARCOmadrid and, with a view to supporting and driving new talents in the art world, convenes this award, which will acquire and present the winning work in its space at ARCOmadrid. The award is aimed at artists aged between the ages of 18 and 35, represented by one of the participating galleries of the Fair.

The jury, comprising professionals from the contemporary art world, will reward an innovative artistic language that succeeds in transmitting brand values such as: innovation, history, purity, health, minimalism and nature.

For the first time this year, ARCOmadrid will host the Alhambra Award which aims to distinguish those projects that include craftwork in their interpretation of contemporary pieces.

A jury will be responsible for pre-selecting five of the participating artists at ARCOmadrid 2017, whose productions adapt to a crafted process. The winner will be announced during the Fair.

At ARCOmadrid 2017, the NH Hotel Group will organise the NH Collection Award to Contemporary Art, distinguishing the work of an international artist whose work will be incorporated into the private collection of the NH Hotel Group and exhibited in the NH Collection space in the VIP Lounge of ARCOmadrid over the course of the Fair.
