In 1994, four New York art dealers started the Gramercy International Art Fair at the legendary Gramercy Park Hotel. In 1999, when the fair moved to the 69th Regiment Armory—the location of the New York debut of the Armory Show 1913—it was renamed The Armory Show as an homage to the 1913 exhibition. Though the fair has since moved to Manhattan's West Side piers, it has retained its name and, over the past two decades, has become one of the most important annual art events in the world.
