The Fair
ArtRio, the International Art Fair of Rio de Janeiro, is recognized by artists, gallerists and collectors as one of the most important art events in Latin America. In its past two editions, the fair received 120,000 visitors from all over Brazil and the world, and consolidated the position of the "Cidade Maravilhosa" as one of the destinations in the international calendar of the visual arts.
This year ArtRio will feature more than 100 galleries from around the world. Among the countries represented are Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Spain, United States, France, England, Italy, Mexico, Peru, Portugal, Switzerland and Uruguay. They were selected by a committee made up of names of excellence and relevance in the field of the visual arts: Alexandre Gabriel, Anita Schwartz, Cecilia Tanure, Greg Lulay and Matthew Wood.
Besides PANORAMA, bringing together galleries active in the art market, two new programs integrate ArtRio 2013: VISTA, which brings young galleries with experimental projects and LUPA, a new program of monumental art, which will occupy the Annex 4 of the Pier Mauá with large-scale works curated by Abaseh Mirvali.
The SOLO program reaches its third year. Pablo León de la Barra and Julieta Gonzalez selected artists for an intervention, according to the theme "Vision of Paradise" by Sergio Buarque de Holanda.
The fair also features the bookstore Livraria Blooks, which hosts art book launches; an auditorium with capacity for 100 people to participate in various free lectures on the art market, and a food court with a sea view, including big names in the gastronomy of Rio.
In 2013, ArtRio will be held from September 5th to 8th, again at the Pier Mauá.
