Art Toronto 2013 will present PLATFORM –  a full schedule of panel discussions, keynote speakers, tours and conversations on current topics in the global contemporary art world. Daily highlights include:

Power Talks, Presented by The Power Plant: Tom Eccles, Curating Collections

Tom Eccles is Executive Director of the Center for Curatorial Studies, Bard College (CCS Bard). Since joining CCS Bard in 2005, he has overseen the construction of the Hessel Museum of Art which opened in November 2006, co-curated the inaugural exhibition of the Marieluise Hessel Collection, Wrestle, among others, and commissioned the permanent installation of Olafur Eliasson’s Parliament of Reality on the grounds of Bard (2009). He also curated the sculpture park for the New York Frieze Art Fair in 2012 and 2013.

Canada in Venice: Curating The National Pavilion
Josée Drouin-Brisebois is the Senior Curator of Contemporary Art at the National Gallery of Canada will discuss her experience curating the last two exhibitions at the Canada Pavilion for the Venice BiennaleSteven Shearer: Exhume to Consume (2011) and Shary Boyle: Music for Silence (2013).

Join this panel to hear from the next generation of art professionals in Canada, including collector and art historian Mary Dailey Desmarais; critic Sky Goodden, Executive Editor of ARTINFO Canada; dealer Wil Aballe, owner of Wil Aballe Art Projects; and other experts. Moderated by Leah Sandals, Online Editor of Canadian Art.

Power Talks, Presented by The Power Plant: Julia Dault, Coming to America

Julia Dault is a Toronto-born artist based in Brooklyn, New York.  Her works have been shown at galleries internationally and included in the exhibitions The Ungovernables (2012), the New Museum’s triennial; Roundtable, the Ninth Gwangju Biennale l (2012); In the Heart of the Country, at the Museum of Modern Art, Warsaw (2013); and Outside the Lines (2013), at the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston. Dault will discuss her work in relation to the fluid concept of home and will touch on topics such as installing sculptures in situ and the resonance of pop-culture touchstones like Debbie Gibson’s Electric Youth.
