Art Toronto’s NEXT section is where you’ll discover what’s up and coming in the contemporary art world! With 18 galleries from around the world the NEXT section is the perfect opportunity to invest in the career of a young artist, or invest in artwork at a more accessible price range. Works in this section range from sculpture to photography; painting to video.

TAKE THE EASY WAY AGAIN by INSTANT COFFEE For Art Toronto 2013, Instant Coffee has been commissioned to create the Toronto Life NEXT Lounge, a space for visitors to take a break, socialize with friends and enjoy a copy of Toronto Life’s November issue! For Art Toronto 2013, IC has built a seating area amalgamating and redesigning elements from their recent exhibition Take the Easy Way at MKG 127, which featured a graphic pattern based on the collective’s logo and inspired by the Danish designer Verner Panton. Instant Coffee [IC] is a service oriented curatorial and artist collective based in Toronto and Vancouver. Instant Coffee developed, in part, as a response to the division and exaggerated difference between studio and exhibition practice. Through formal installations and event-based activities the collective builds a public place to practice, where ideas, materials and actions can be explored outside of the isolated studio and in a manner that renegotiates traditional exhibition structures, but is still supported by them. Instant Coffee is Jinhan Ko, Kelly Lycan, Khan Lee, Jenifer Papararo, Kate Monro and Cecilia Berkovic.  Instant Coffee is represented by MKG127, Toronto Canada.

Friday, Saturday & Sunday in the NEXT Lounge

C Magazine will host a series of discussions about experimental artist residency projects. Each half hour session will include C Editor Amish Morrell in conversation with organizers and participants from alternative residencies, including Matt Evans and Shinobu Akimoto from the Residency for Artists on Hiatus, Lucas Soi and Luis Jacob from the Gibralter Point Thematic Residency Program, Chris Foster from the White Rabbit Festival, and Shannon Garden-Smith and others from the Roundtable Residency.
