Jacolby Satterwhite Goes Public at the 2014 Whitney Biennial
"I want to get better. I want to keep pushing forward. I want to wrinkle and get ugly...making my art." —Jacolby Satterwhite in the Art21 New York Close Up film, Jacolby Satterwhite Is Going Public
New in Art21's New York Close Up series: Artist Jacolby Satterwhite works down to the wire on his latest animation, Reifying Desire 6 (2014), leading into its premiere at the 2014 Whitney Biennial.
"It's going to have a long-winded, extremely detailed, baroque, Hieronymus Bosch, twenty-four-minute procreating ritual, where nests are being built and placenta sacks are being ripped from our bodies," says Satterwhite in the film, describing the work. "We're kind of engaging in a very complicated, intergalactic sexual display. And it has lots of impulsive perversions and strangeness."
