Vitra Campus: Architecture Design Industry
ARTBOOK | D.A.P.
Diogene, Renzo Piano and the Renzo Piano Building Workshop's 2013 minimalist living unit, is the smallest and most recent building (to date) on the Vitra design and architecture campus in Weil am Rhein, Germany. Measuring only 2.5 x 3 meters, Diogene "functions autonomously as a self-contained system and is thus fully independent of its environment. The front serves as a living room: on one side, there is a pull-out sofa; on the other, a folding table beneath the window. Behind a partition, the interior contains a shower and toilet as well as a kitchen, which has likewise been reduced to the bare essentials." Featured image is reproduced from Vitra's newly released overview of its storied campus, featuring work by the world's most distinguished architects, including Zaha Hadid, Frank Gehry, Tadao Ando, SANAA, Álvaro Siza, Nicholas Grimshaw and Herzog & de Meuron, to name just a few.
