I sometimes think about how Kenny Scharf is the only one from his 1980s downtown scene who is still with us (R.I.P. Basquiat, Haring, Warhol et al). Sadly, I was born too late to experience that gritty and creative New York, but I like to think I get a glimpse of it at his Cosmic Cavern parties**** (that are probably his largest art installations to date) and a hell of a lot of fun. He keeps the spirit of the East Village alive through experiential, neon realness.
