Proving once and for all that Art Legends aren’t always inaccessible, our intrepid Artfetch reporter, Lori Zimmer, boldly goes where angels may fear to tread, as she checks out the art party to end all art parties – and asks who in the new generation is prepared to get up, fly the flag, and get on down in the name of art?

It seems like New York’s art critics, artists and art enthusiasts endlessly obsess about that magical long–ago Downtown Era, when Lower East Side galleries were just sprouting up, graffiti was new, and New York was mad, bad and dangerous to know. The New York of the late 1970s and early 1980s was an exciting place for avant garde art, and the cinematic idealism of it still competes with today’s super commercial art world for the soul of New York.

And it’s a fight that ain’t quite over yet…
