As China’s first state-run contemporary museum, the Power Station of Art in Shanghai is stirring up China’s vast art scene. This renovated power station is now showcasing the ninth edition of the Shanghai Biennale (October 1, 2012–March 31, 2013) as well as an exhibit sponsored by the Centre Pompidou (December 16, 2012–March 15, 2013). The Pompidou’s “Electric Fields: Surrealism and Beyond” features artists such as Marcel Duchamp, Yan Pei-Ming, Andy Warhol and Malcolm Morley. Shanghai art lovers and travelers can also look forward to more Warhol when the Pittsburgh-based Andy Warhol Museum brings a touring retrospective to the Power Station later in the year.
