French painter Djabril Boukhenaïssi has received the inaugural Guerlain x Lee Ufan Arles Art and Environment Award, awarded at Paris+ par Art Basel. Awarded by Lee Ufan Arles, the endowment fund founded by the Korean artist, and Guerlain, the historic French perfumery, the new prize honors artists engaging with a larger environmental dialogue.

Boukhenaïssi, who studied at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris, is celebrated for works reflecting the fragility and transience of the natural world. His paintings, such as Trois arbres (2021), depict landscapes that seem to disappear or drift deeper into the canvas.

Additionally, the prize grants a residency of six to eight weeks in Arles, where the artist will work with other artists and professionals from the art world. Boukhenaïssi will also present a solo exhibition at Lee Ufan Arles next summer.

Guerlain is currently hosting an art exhibition, “Les Fleurs du Mal,” at their Champs-Elysées location, dedicated to 170 years of the Abeilles Bottle—the Bee Bottle. This exhibit features 26 artists, including renowned and contemporary names like Alvaro Barrington, Anselm Kiefer, Jiang Zhi, and Nobuyoshi Araki, on view until November 13th.
