Miami’s annual marathon art week is just getting underway, but by Thursday those in south Florida for the festivities may be badly in need of nourishment as they make their way between the week’s 20 or so art fairs. Luckily, artist Rirkrit Tiravanija and renowned Finnish chef Antto Melasniemi will be doling out free curry cooked in solar-powered cookers created by artist Tomás Saraceno. The nourishing artistic happening begins at noon on Thursday on the Miami Beach oceanfront, between 21st and 22nd streets.

The curry cookout is part of Saraceno’s installation Albedo, a participatory installation being presented by Audemars Piguet during Art Basel in Miami Beach. In addition to the two solar-powered cookers, the installation includes 40 reflective umbrellas and the solar-powered sculpture Aerocene Explorer (2018).

The public feast is a hallmark of Tiravanija’s practice—he’s prepared and served meals at major institutions including the Museum of Modern Art and the Grand Palais—and a textbook example of the contemporary art genre known as Relational Aesthetics.
