Senior Brand Designer

We're looking for a supportive, strategic, passionate Senior Brand Designer to elevate and establish the brand design discipline at Artsy. Brand is of utmost, core importance to Artsy, and we need a design leader to bring focus and clarity to our identity and voice, and mindfully evolve the brand over time. Our needs span consumer-facing marketing to connect buyers with artworks, communicating new services from our product offering, and collaborating with editorial on visual storytelling and art direction.

Your key focus is exemplify excellence for brand design at Artsy, and execute thoughtful, strategic work. You'll set an example for best-in-practices collaboration processes, design thinking, and strategy for creative development. You will build relationships with partners in Product, Marketing, Editorial, and Experiential to shape the way brand design work is developed.

As a senior leader at Artsy, you'll work with leaders and executives across the company to create an environment where the value of brand integrity is understood by all, where expressive, progressive design and communication can thrive. Our platform allows us to tell stories about art, spread knowledge about how to collect, elevate the stories our partners (galleries, fairs, and institutions) and the artists they represent. We need a leader to evolve the visual and verbal language we use to tell these stories and communicate who we are.

Key Responsibilities:

  • You will establish, maintain, and evolve brand guidelines as a living, breathing resource for Artsy. Guidelines include guidance for both visual language and voice and tone for copy. You will partner with cross-functional teams to establish a shared understanding of these guidelines.
  • You will partner with leaders in other disciplines to establish healthy, collaboration processes to develop strategy, roadmaps, and pipelines of brand design work. Opportunities for collaboration include marketing campaigns, visual identities for Artsy experiential events, editorial content, and general brand communications.
  • You'll mentor a team of strong brand designers. You'll provide support to develop visual design skills, customer-oriented strategic thinking, push formal exploration, and help designers build relationships with collaborators.
  • Establish brand design processes to enable strong, impactful, thoughtful, work. Teach and enable all brand designers to pursue top-of-class processes, expand the team's practice, and embrace progressive ways of working.

Candidate Qualifications:

  • You are a design leader with deep experience in graphic design, brand strategy, developing a visual language, product and marketing communications.
  • You have a strong perspective on the value of design to business at large, and can advocate for necessity of strong design to leaders across verticals.
  • We love our craft and aim for excellence, and we hope you feel the same. You have a strong command and understanding of design fundamentals (typography, composition, balance, art direction, pacing, narrative), and maintain a high standard for quality of output.

  • You have vision, have space for feedback, and lead from a place of empathy. You listen to customers, your reports, and collaborators, with an appetite for curiosity and research. You lead with a focus on delivering value.
  • You have translated brand strategy into design initiatives and executional plans in product and marketing communications, informed by customer research and insights.
  • You have deep experience in fine tuning and evolving a brand with the growth of a company.
  • You have an intimate understanding of healthy behaviors and successful processes for brand and product design teams to thrive in close collaboration.
