In support of a more expansive marketplace for art buying and selling, we are seeking a Senior User Researcher to ensure that product development, decision making, and business strategy are built upon a strong undercurrent of knowledge and understanding about our consumers and partners.

Artsy User Researchers are responsible for broadening our understanding about our most complex questions. You'll drive the research roadmap and ensure that our products and services are useful with impactful precision. You will work with our cross-functional product teams, designing and executing research throughout the product development cycle. Key initiatives include research support for product teams, customer lifecycle mapping and exploratory holistic run-ahead research.

This role reports into Design, as your work will define the way Artsy is experienced by collectors and partners, but you will be working closely with other functions such as Product, Data, and Marketing. Your insights will directly inform both the direction and design of the product.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define, plan, and conduct user research, in US and sometimes international markets.
  • Drive development of the research roadmap. Collaborate with Product Teams to iteratively prioritize research opportunities in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
  • Generate a holistic view of our consumer and partner behavior across markets, and proactively identify gaps and opportunities for new research. Lead the company in sustaining command of this evolving perspective over time.
  • Deliver actionable insights to the product, design, and marketing teams. Produce generative research that uncovers opportunities.
  • Advise and facilitate evidence-based product and design decisions.
  • Train supporting team members that will help with executing studies, or conduct smaller studies independently.
  • Drive and evolve our user research practice, with a front-of-industry perspective on best practices and methodologies.
  • Uphold a culture of rigor and data curiosity to drive tangible business impact.
  • Understand and incorporate complex business requirements into research.
  • Advocate research findings to diverse audiences through written reports and in-person presentations. Evangelize user research best practices across the company.

Candidate Qualifications:

Approximately 5+ years of professional experience with some or all of the following:

  • 3+ years of experience in a formal research role within a consumer-facing tech company.
  • Experience integrating research into Product, Design, Data, and Engineering practices.
  • Proven success of conducting research to identify needs and product opportunities that translated into shipped product with valuable business impact.
  • Strong understanding of the strengths and shortcomings of different research methods, including when and how to apply them during the product development process.
  • Experience in survey design. Working knowledge of statistics and experimental design.
  • Strong communicator and storyteller, able to speak fluently to business, technical, and non-technical people.
  • Familiar with quantitative research methods, comfortable with metrics and A/B tests, and are able to synthesize quantitative data with qualitative user research.
  • Driven, self-sufficient, able to execute with autonomy and capable of prioritizing across a number of tasks and projects.
