I was inspired by the texts we read regarding feminist theory so I set forth to address the encounter with the objectification of women in the eyes of male artists and male society. I began to find text that conveyed the beliefs and concepts I was interested in.
Fragments of text from Simon De Beauvoir’s “The Second Sex”, Martin Heidegger’s Letter on Humanism in Basic Writings and Roland Barthes “Image Music Text”, fragments that not unlike the shapes are transformed into abstractions. As in cultural translations of language there is a loss of its original meaning and becomes indecipherable. Elements of sexuality, race, gender and cultural origin become elements that I aim will serve as means of questioning ways that man uses to classify and organize the world. I aim to disrupt these means of representation both linguistically and pictorially calling attention to the way these social constructs operate.
