Njideka Akunyili's Collages

In my work at the Yale Art Gallery I recently came across Nigerian artist Njideja Akunyili, who did her M.F.A. at Yale in 2011. I love her take on mixed-media collage, kind of a textured realism. Using acrylics, charcoal, ink, collage, and xerox transfers Akunyili layers her canvases with a plethora of information. Her sources range from news clippings to personal memorabilia.
