Featured Artist: Meredith Andrews (Bermuda Biennial 2014: A View From the Edge)
Threshold is a series of portraits of young people on the edge: the edge of adulthood, the edge of opportunity, and the edge of life's challenges.
My current project involves taking portraits of 75 women all with the same name, throughout Sweden. The theme of Biennial did not directly fit into my Who is Anna Anderson? project, but for several months I have been considering the theme and the multitude of way to interpret it. It has been a constant in the back of my mind and this is undoubtedly reflected in my work.
Over the past 6 years living in Sweden my sense of island identity
has developed greatly. Whilst Sweden is muted, subtle and quiet, Bermuda is
vibrant, social and boisterous. Living in contrast to my island home makes me
see clearly my connection to Bermuda, its people, our culture and
heritage.
