Terrell James | Remembering the Poison Tree
New exhibition
We are
delighted to present the first solo show of paintings by Terrell James at
Cadogan Contemporary.
Walter Hopps, the
legendary Curator and Founding Director of The Menil Collection, viewed James
as being among the finest gestural abstractionists working in Texas and as one
of the best in the United States. Hopps stated, “she has mastered a lyrical freedom
usually seen in watercolor rather than in oil. Although articulated line is
often structurally important, the paintings are primarily built of patches and
fluid areas of colour.”
The exhibition
features work from 2009 to the present which has been chosen to give the best glimpse into James’s body of work.
Her use of gesture and line and the multi-leveled exploraiton of abstraction have created a stunning selection of paintings.
