Each year the London Original Print Fair (LOPF) presents its annual Printmaking Talk, free tours, talks, and printmaking demonstrations. 


Free Talks Programme

Admission to the following talks and events is free with your ticket to the London Original Print Fair. Spaces are limited so please book by emailing your name to  [email protected] stating clearly which talk you wish to attend. 


THURSDAY 5 MAY 

12 noon 
Now, then, and tomorrow: Printmaking at the RA Schools

An introduction and background tour revealing the history, current contemporary status and future ambitions for printmaking at the Royal Academy by Mark Hampson, Head of Fine Art Processes [Printmaking, Sculpture and digital media] in RA Schools.

Rebecca Salter RA on Japanese woodblock printing – a view from the 21st century

Royal Academician printmaker Rebecca Salter will talk about the prints she has commissioned from a workshop in Kyoto and give insight into the vitality of the technique in Japan in General.

FRIDAY 6 MAY

Talk and viewing of Worton Hall Studios’ latest editions with artists and dealers

Worton Hall Studios comprise three of the UK’s finest printing studios: CCA Galleries, Hugenot Editions and Coriander Studios. Join them for a close look at their latest editions and candid discussion with artists and dealers.

Special Artist’s Talk with Yinka Shonibare MBE RA

Acclaimed artist Yinka Shonibare discusses his recent prints and their relation to his varied artistic practice in sculpture, photography, installation and painting.

Young Collectors' Evening
LOPF's special Young Collectors' Evening offers a night of  talks, tours and demonstrations aimed at the younger art buyer. The RA is open late, giving visitors plenty of time to explore and enjoy this buzzing and lively evening.

Tess Jaray RA and Bob Saich in Conversation

Join master printer Bob Saich and painter and printmaker Tess Jaray RA for a candid discussion about working together and their artistic process. Jaray will also shed light on curating The Edge of Print, on view in the RA’s Sir Hugh Casson Room.

Paul Coldwell: Small Journeys
Artist Paul Coldwell talks about the relationship between his prints and his recent sculptures, which special focus on the theme of absence and presence in his work and the associations we have with objects.

SUNDAY 8 MAY

Gordon Cooke: Whistler & Me

James McNeill Whistler expert Gordon Cooke discusses how his interest in the artist’s masterful prints has grown over his 40 years’ experience as an art dealer. Gordon is the Chairman and founder of the London Original Print Fair and Director of 19th and 20th Century Prints at the Fine Art Society.

Printmaker’s Talk: Katherine Jones
Katherine Jones works in aquatint, etching, collograph and woodcut. Here she will talk with dealer Meryl Ainslie about Jones’s most recent prints and life after winning the LOPF Printmaking Prize at the RA Summer Exhibition.

Michael Craig-Martin in Conversation with Dame Joan Bakewell
Join the London Original Print Fair for a reflection on art and life with artist Michael Craig-Martin and Dame Joan Bakewell, with a particular focus on printmaking.
