"About Light" by Petra Reece
Petra Reece’s ongoing fascination with ‘light’ is beautifully presented in her new series, “About Light”, an exhibition comprising the freshness of plein-air painting and the refined finish of the studio. As Petra as noted “In my paintings I am drawn to light, fall and shadow. I like to explore what is clearly seen, as much as, what is partially hidden. I combine memories and imagination to create places of exaggerated contrasts and stark perspectives: buildings and houses are situated in preciously unusual locations.”
Petra Reece has been practising as a professional artist since the late 1980s, having participated in over 40 exhibitions. She has been a recipient of a number of art prizes, including having been a finalist on consecutive occasions in the Eutick Memorial Still Life Award (2011, 2008), a finalist in the John Leslie Art Prize (2012), and a finalist in the inaugural Len Fox Art Award (2011).. Born in Zaandam, Holland, and arriving in Australia in 1952, her country of origin’s art history remains a permanent marker, within her art practice.
