Developed by British-Venezuelan curator and art historian Cecilia Fajardo-Hill, this section presents work by different artists in regard to one common theme. This year, the theme is the relationship between object and subject, which the curator has selected because, “Latin America has a tradition, which dates back from pre-Hispanic times, of maintaining a subjective relationship with objectuality and of creating less categorical differenced between material culture, popular culture, and high culture.”

The selected galleries come from different countries in Latin America, including Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru, and Venezuela.

For FOCUS, each gallery has been invited to present the work of two artists, one of which should be a woman, as requested by Cecilia in an effort to highlight the continent’s female artists.
