Get Ready for Rothko
Christie's
‘I would like to say to those that think of my pictures as serene...that I have imprisoned the most utter violence in every inch of their surface.’ – Mark Rothko
Mark Rothko’s painting, entitled, Orange, Red, Yellow sold last May for a record $86.8 million. On November 12, we’ll be offering Untitled (No 11), a stunning work of rich oranges and yellows, at our Post-War and Contemporary Evening Sale in New York.
“Untitled (No. 11) is remarkable for its incredible beauty, intensity of color and inner light -- the very hallmarks of Rothko’s prime period," says Brett Gorvy, Christie's Chairman and International Head of Post-War & Contemporary Art. "The monumental scale allows viewers to be completely enveloped by the colors and its sensations.”
