MUMBAI CALLING: Our First Auction in India

Dec 9, 2013 7:18PM

We are beyond thrilled to be announcing our first South Asian Art sale that will take place in India on December 19, at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in Mumbai. This sale reinforces our longstanding commitment to the colorful art scene and cultural heritage of the country, ever since James Christie offered ‘four fine India pictures painted on glass’ at auction in 1766.

This monumental sale marks a new chapter for us at Christie’s, as well as a new chapter for the South Asian art market. Viewers will see the arc of Indian modernism on display, from works by some of the great national treasures from the estate of Kekoo and Khorshed Gandhy, such as Vasudeo Gaitonde and M.F. Husain, among others.
