“The aim is … to find a technical process which allows the artist to express their ideas and emotions, the poetry of their work, in the purest form.” – Printmaker Valter Rossi, in an interview with Christie’s

On March 19, 2014, Christie’s will feature Old Master, Modern & Contemporary prints in London. The sale showcases work from a range of notable artists including Albrecht Dürer, Edvard Munch, Francis Bacon, as well as contemporary offerings from artists like Anish Kapoor. To raise funds for Whitechapel Gallery and its various programmes, living artists donated a number of rare works; in this sale, a number of previously sold-out editions will be offered one last time.

Christie’s will also feature a sale of James Ensor Prints from the collection of Paris dealer Mira Jacob. The nearly comprehensive collection illustrates the artist’s affinity for printmaking, and provides insight into the artistic process. “[The sale] demonstrates the richness of Ensor’s printed output, as well its variety,” Coline Milliard writes in Artnet.”It also provides a perfect opportunity to look into what has remained so far a rather niche market.”

Old Master, Modern, & Contemporary Prints and James Ensor Prints: The Mira Jacob Collection will be held March 19, 2014 at our King Street location in London.
