Motherwell in Venice

Amidst all the festivities of the 55th Venice Biennale right now, there is a wonderful exhibition of Robert Motherwell's early collages at the beautiful Peggy Guggenheim Collection on the Grand Canal in Venice. You really have to go in-person to experience the layering, texture, and use of paint in these amazing collages. As useful as digital reproductions are for enjoyment, study and research, there is still no substitute for experiencing art in the flesh.

It was a pleasure to interview Jack Flam, President and CEO of the Dedalus Foundation, about the exhibition and the future plans of the Foundation Motherwell established in his lifetime. We're hoping many thousands of people will discover Motherwell's works in Venice and via Artsy.

Robert Motherwell: Early Collages on view at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice through September 8, 2013.
