Architecture party
As part of Design Week New York, some of the city's most talented and engaged architects, artists and designers got together to acknowledge the importance of architecture and design in contemporary culture through the inaugural Architizer A+ Awards. A total of 87 buildings, projects and structures won the jury and popular votes for each of the A+ Awardʼs 52 categories. A highly-esteemed jury of 200+ professionals in their respective fields including artists Iwan Baan and Olafur Eliasson, among others selected the winners.
Projects ran the gamut of architectural typology and form, ranging from enormous towers to the smallest apartments and nearly everything in between. Some of the highlighted projects include Belgian-Danish architect Julien De Smedt of JDS Architects' Holmenkollen Ski Jump and Iceberg Dwellings, The Very Many's Louis Vuitton Yayoi Kusama Pop Up Store at Selfridges London, FR-EE Fernando Romero Enterprise's Soumaya Museum in Mexico City, and DOMUSae's Spaces for Culture in Madrid's old army museum.
Winners were feted last night in a red carpet ceremony at Ceder Lake in New York City as one of the featured events of NYCxDESIGN. The A+ Awards statuette given to distinguished winners was cleverly designed by architect Alex Mustonen and artist Daniel Arsham of Snarkitecture.
