Sponsoring Oeuvre Documentation

Jack Flam was a panelist on the "Sponsoring Oeuvre Documentation" at the Seminar for Artist-Endowed Foundation Leaders at the New School for Public Engagement on November 17, 2012. He discussed how the Dedalus Foundation has coordinated its programs so that they relate both to the internal operations of the foundation that address specific issues related to Motherwell's oeuvre, and to other institutions with whom Dedalus collaborates in related programs. He described how the conservation and care of Motherwell's archives was directly related to the recently published catalogue raisonné of Motherwell's paintings and collages, and how the foundation's documentation of Motherwell's work was continuing. He gave particular attention to the ongoing research and documentation of works by Motherwell, including the ways in which the Dedalus website would offer online updates to the existing catalogue raisonne of Motherwell's works. He stressed how the Robert Motherwell Catalogue Raisonné Project would continue to give opinions about works submitted to it for potential inclusion in the online Supplement, and described work on the creation of a catalogue raisonne of Motherwell's drawings, which he hoped would be published in a few years.
