Cooper-Hewitt Tours of Design Miami/ 2012
The Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum was opened in 1897 under the auspices of the Smithsonian, with the purpose of enriching the public’s knowledge of the nature and far-flung impacts of design. It is our pleasure to announce that Andrea Lipps, Assistant Curator of the Museum, will be be giving guided tours of the Design Miami/ 2012 fair and imparting her exhaustive knowledge of the works, designers, and histories present.
Located in the Andrew Carnegie Mansion in New York, the Cooper-Hewitt boasts a collection of over 240 years of design, including one of the largest collections of decorative arts in the world. There are over 200,000 objects on display at the Museum from the areas of graphic and product design, textiles, drawings and prints. It is from this expansive collection that Lipps draws her expertise, providing tour-takers with an unparalleled opportunity to gain insight into the fair’s highlighted installations, objects, and displays.
The tour will start in the specially designed pop-up shop by Cooper-Hewitt, who collaborated with Distributed Art Publishers/ ARTBOOKS to create the store, and will go from there on an intellectually stimulating romp throughout the exhibitions. The shop will have a collection of designed objects and publications that reflect the designers and movements represented at Design Miami/ 2012.
