“The work which excites me the most is the Growth Chair by Mathias Bengtsson. A new icon of biomimicry, he employs several new process-driven technological breakthroughs, including Mammoth Stereolithography and new systems for producing hyper-complex structures, all developed by the maker, Materialise, Belgium. Growth Chair is arguably the most ambitious example yet attempted using a ‘digital seed’ that, guided by the designer’s protocols, grows wild in a virtual world. Although the process emulates natural growth, Bengtsson has created a most beautiful set of parameters, which function like an elegant garden wall.”
