Welcome to Design Miami/ 2012!

Designers, gallerists, collectors, critics, lovers of design – all are arriving in throngs for the opening of  Design Miami/ 2012. More than one thousand works by the world’s leading creators of furniture, lighting, jewelry, and objets d’art have been amassed for the most extensive Design Miami/ fair yet. Top galleries from the US, Europe, Middle East and Asia have set up in the 56,000 square ft. tent, alongside a number of unique installations and exhibitions.

Each gallery booth is expertly curated with work ranging the 20th and 21st century – from Futurist tapestries to contemporary graphic furniture. Visitors will happen upon the innovative and cutting edge, turn a corner, and see classic works that have shaped the history of modern design. The entrance to Design Miami/ 2012 is a work by itself, listed as one of the NY Times’ must-see public installations for Art Basel Miami Beach week. Over five hundred massive, floating cylinders playfully undulate in the breeze – these make up the entrance pavilion designed by the NY-based architecture firm Snarkitecture. Titled Drift, the entryway – along with the Bend seating – serves as a point for rest and contemplation as sunlight seeps through the bouyant piping.

Quiet contemplation on the outside leads to visual, intellectual, even olfactory wonderment on the inside. Guided tours,  the Design Pioneers Talk and BE OPEN forum – these are just a few examples of the compelling programming that will be taking place throughout the week.

Design Miami/ 2012 will be a place of incredible convergence, where people from all areas of the design industry will view both the museum-quality gallery rooms and the uniquely commissioned works. Homages to history will exist alongside displays of future directions, and great works abound in every corner of the fair waiting to be experienced.Welcome to Design Miami/.
