Expressionist forerunner, Symbolist innovator, and originator of The Scream, Edvard Munch was born on this day 150 years ago. In honor of this milestone, eight provinces across Norway, Munch Museet and Nasjonalmuseet collaborated to create “Munch 150”, a year-long program of exhibitions, tours, and events to honor their nation’s master painter and printmaker. “Munch 150” continues through the end of the year and extends beyond Norway, with an exhibition of prints at Tokyo’s National Museum of Western Art, “Munch/Warhol and the Multiple Image,” currently on view at CerModern in Ankara, and a Scream Christmas tree at Washington, D.C.’s Union Station. In celebration of Munch we offer ten of our favorite Scream’s on Artsy.
