“Anyone who shot pictures of abandoned buildings was eventually painted with this broad brush of making ‘ruin porn’. Then local politics and boosterism comes into it. People are saying, ‘Why didn’t you take pictures of the nice stuff?’ I’m like, why not look at the magazine in your hotel room? I’m sure there are pictures of gardens and nice places to go to.
