United by their crackling, nostalgic formats and a similar date of origin, these short films display rare footage of two masters at work. Often cited as fathers of Cubism and French Impressionism, respectively, Pablo Picasso and Claude Monet paint with such nonchalance, it seems almost anyone could pick up a brush and start to paint, too. But after all, doesn’t everything seem simpler in black and white?
