Crash Course in Art Vocab I: Woodcut
Artsy Editorial
A woodcut is a type of relief printing in which an image is chiseled into a block of wood. The surface of the block is then inked with a roller and printed, leaving an image only where the block has not been carved away. For more on woodcuts, and to see both Old Master and contemporary examples, check out the Artsy gene page Woodcut/Linocut.
