We asked several of our friends and contributors for the artists they’ll be paying close attention to in the new year. Eric Shiner picked a 32-year-old Venezuelan-American who’s been called “an heir to the American school of Pop” and deemed the “anthropologist of the immediate past.”

Alex Da Corte: “This young Philadelphia-based artist is constantly challenging the status quo of the art world through his equal-parts humor- and terror-infused sculptures, installations, and photographs. He infuses his work with his love of Halloween and its attendant costuming and decorations, creating installations akin to a party, and sculptures that become the oddball guests … in other words, a really great bash that we as visitors want to jump into and never leave.”

Eric Shiner is the Director of The Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, P.A.
