Born this day in 1848, Louis Comfort Tiffany
carried the legacy of his father’s Tiffany
empire all the way into a 57-room mansion
on the corner of Madison Avenue and 72nd Street, equipped with a multiple story studio on the upper floors. As a venue not just to create but to showcase his many masterpieces, Tiffany’s studio was a lavish display of ornate, Art Nouveau design—like his signature decorative glasswork, pictured at right.
Happy birthday to you, Louis; the party is at your place.
