Happy Birthday to Sally Mann, a photographer who embraces happy accidents and finds beauty in the commonplace. Still carrying a sentiment she picked up as a child, she recalls: “When I was about six my father gave me a book called Art is Everywhere, and it was one of those kids books where it tells you to crawl under the tablecloth of your dining room table and look for the intriguing little crumbs that you find on the floor, just to appreciate the quotidian. And I guess I must have taken it to heart, because I’ve never forgotten the book, and the concept is as valid to me now as it was then.”
