In The Studio: Mickalene Thomas

For Artsy’s inaugural In The Studio feature, we paid a visit to the workspace of rhinestone proprietress Mickalene Thomas, who welcomed us off an industrial Brooklyn street and into her colorful, bedazzled studio. Along the grand tour of her studio, Thomas pointed out objects essential to her practice—and with every explanation, we fell even deeper under the spell of her work, and of the artist herself.
