Kinder Artists at kinder MODERN

With back-to-school to-do lists stacked like rogue homework assignments, the excitement of the first day of school often carries an ever-growing list of necessary supplies... Which calls for a visit to kinder MODERN, the New York City gallery specializing in design works for children. Lucas Maassen’s chairs will keep your kids en vogue (literally—the design pieces were recently spotted in Vogue’s August issue). The chairs were hand-painted by Maassen’s three sons, Twomblys in the making— Thijme, age 9, and Julian and Maris, both age 7—who are paid, per contract, 1 euro per piece. But don’t worry. Dutch child labor laws in tact, the Maassen sons work only 3 hours per week.
