On April 16th, the Brooklyn Museum will host its fourth annual Brooklyn Artists Ball in celebration of the borough’s creative community. Leading up to the event—which honors artists Jenny Holzer, Ai Weiwei, and Kehinde Wiley, and features a benefit auction, dinner, and dancing—we invite you to learn more about the artists who’ve contributed to the cause:
Informed by his background in architecture and driven by a fascination with antiquity, Nick van Woert claims to “hijack” the art historical past to create his striking, wry sculptures. A strong sense of history—both natural and human—unites his prolific output. He cites Vitruvius, the early Roman architect who was inspired by nature, as a significant influence. Like an urban archeologist, van Woert combs through the convenience stores, factories, and dumpsters in Brooklyn to source materials for his sculptures, which he then re-presents in elegant works.
Auction bidding begins April 7th at 12:00pm EST. Register to bid and explore the Brooklyn Artists Ball on Artsy.
