In self-portraits in which she enacts her alter ego Gia Conda, Andrea Mary Marshall channels da Vinci’s Mona Lisa (a.k.a. La Gioconda) to explore the mystery surrounding the famous masterpiece:
“The Mona Lisa is fascinating in that she will always remain a mystery, and I felt compelled to explore da Vinci’s magnificent psychological portrait through the female psyche,” she says. “Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa will always remain seated with her lips sealed, but I am exploring the emotions and confidence related to the challenge of standing up from your seat and saying what’s on your mind and in your heart.”
