If we could write our history and chart our futures as we please, who would we be?”—Kudzanai Chiurai

Banished from his home country after defamation of the Zimbabwean president, Kudzanai Chiurai —or Kudzi, to his friends—makes his art from exile in South Africa, where he lives in inner-city Johannesburg among a band of outsiders. In a neighborhood notorious for crime, Chiurai shines a light on locals to portray his personal experience living among exiles, refugees, and asylum-seekers—The Most Beautiful Boogey Man, included.

On view at Goodman Gallery, Frieze NY - Booth C16, May 9th – 13th
