Graced with a curious imagination and a childlike enthusiasm for science, it is no wonder Alicja Kwade leapt at the opportunity to create an installation within an old church in Berlin—caught in mid-renovation—where she could recreate a historic experiment by 19th-century French physicist Léon Foucault. In a nod to Foucault, best known for his eponymous pendulum that demonstrated the Earth’s rotation, Kwade has hung a light bulb and microphone from the ceiling of the church. Read more about Kwade here and be sure to visit her captivating installation of light and sound in Berlin’s former church of St. Agnes.

On view through May 26th, 2013.
