Three Things You Should Know About Jeff Zilm
Artsy Editorial
1. Jeff Zilm has developed a unique practice in recent years: he uses detergent to strip the emulsion off a film strip, mixes it with acrylic paint, and sprays and brushes the resulting compound onto a canvas or panel.
2. Zilm’s ghostly canvases each contain the physical contents of a full film.
3. He was Artist-in-residence at Marfa’s Chinati Foundation in 2008 and received the Otis and Velma Dozier Grant from the Dallas Museum of Art in 2002.
Find Zilm’s work in the TWO x TWO for AIDS and Art auction, 2013.
