1. Jorge Macchi is a leading Argentinean artist, working in a range of mediums, including sculpture, painting, video, and conceptual and performance work.

2. He is often considered a conceptual artist, but says in response: “I am annoyed that everyone thinks I’m a conceptual artist. For me the work starts with an image, not an idea. I have links with Surrealism. I have no problem with that, and my work is also related to Arte Povera and the transformation of stuff that is thrown away into something that has transcendence.”

3. Macchi’s works are in the collections of the Fundación Arco, Musee de’Art Moderne et d’Art Contemporain (Nice), Museo de Arte Moderno de Buenos Aires, the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), and the Tate.

Find Macchi’s work in the TWO x TWO for AIDS and Art auction, 2013.
