Both Rachel Whiteread and Wang Zhibo work with the isolating nature of space. Hangzhou-based Zhibo paints traditional Chinese gardens disrupted by Western architectural elements, drawing out the tension of landscape to the alien superimpositions.

Rachel Whiteread of the British YBA generation is known for casting interiors to create inverse moulds of physical space.  These ghostly remnants become vestiges of reality, and heighten both physical and emotional voids by making the absent present.
